Transmission
Neisseria meningitidis bacteria spread through respiratory droplets and close contact — coughing, sneezing, kissing, and sharing utensils in crowded conditions like dormitories or pilgrimage gatherings.
Geography
MenB is the dominant meningococcal strain in the UK and Europe, with infants and 15–24-year-olds at highest risk. Sporadic outbreaks occur in university dormitories worldwide. Less common in the sub-Saharan “meningitis belt” (which is mostly serogroups A and W).
Immunity
Two doses of BEXSERO (4CMenB) recombinant protein vaccine, at least 4 weeks apart. Protection develops 1–2 weeks after dose 2. No routine booster is needed for healthy adults after completing the 2-dose course.
